From A Program Participant:

“My stay at the Family Promise program was awesome. I never expected to be in a program that offers so much help. It’s amazing to be able to accomplish all I’ve set to accomplish in two months. The volunteers are great and it’s pretty cool to have you guys as a family. There is no other program that compares to the efforts and consistency of help provided. It’s good to know that Someone actually cares.”

Sean Avery, Council President, Christ the Servant Lutheran Church:

“Over the course of this past year we engaged in conversations about where the Holy Spirit is leading and ways for us to live up to our name – Christ the Servant. Service has always been the heart of our congregation’s mission. In the midst of these conversations, we were introduced to the Family Promise program. By being a host congregation, we are able to use and share our building in transformative ways to love and serve those in our community with housing needs. We look forward to seeing the fruits of this program and the lives it will impact!”

Pastor Scott Connolly, Assumption Church

help-homeless-families-in-whatcom-county“…we have to reach out to those who are most in need in our society. We are only as strong as the weakest link in the chain. We want people to know that the Catholic Church cares about strengthening the entire cord of the human community here in Bellingham…” When asked if it will be difficult to rearrange their facility use for four weeks out of the year, Rev. Scott said “It will be a sacrifice, but we have to make choices about putting other people first. It may be inconvenient for some of our parishioners, but nothing like having to sleep on the streets every night.”

Bill Gilfillan, Former Senior Pastor Northlake Community Church, Bellingham

Family Promise is a super partner for churches who want to connect with the homeless. They provided us with hard won experience and guidelines for helping without hurting. Having a national partner with years of experience is the way to go. Moving back from Minnesota to Washington, I highly recommend them and look forward to seeing a partnership form here in Whatcom County.”

FROM FAMILY PROMISE OF SKAGIT COUNTY:

Shirley Scott, Family Promise of Skagit Valley Board Member:

“The program has had a profound effect not only on the homeless families we serve, but on the volunteers who have found an opportunity of serving and being in relationship with people in need. Every volunteer you talk to has a story about an interaction with a family. We have received a lot.”

Nick Harris, an assistant pastor at His Place Church in Mount Vernon,

“I’ve been here 22 years.  I haven’t seen a ministry that has brought more satisfaction to the volunteers.”
